ANNAPOLIS, Md. & CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 3, 2022) – Howard University men's track & field team opened the indoor season with a pair of meets: Navy Invitational I and HBCU & Ivy Challenge.

"The men came out very strong and had fantastic performances across the board," said Howard Director of Track & Field David Oliver after today's meet. "This is a great sign of what's to come as the season progresses."

Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Triple Jump Champion sophomore Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) led the way in Cambridge, winning the event by leaping nearly 49 feet (14.80 meters).

Fellow classmate Kyle Fisher earned runner-up honors behind Drewery, jumping 14.60 meters (47'6"). He also finished third in the long jump after vaulting nearly 23 feet (6.95 meters).

On the track, the hurdle squad stole the show in the 60-meter hurdles with three Bison finishing in the top 4: junior Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga./2nd place/8.02); seniors Kameron Davis (Miami/3rd place/8.04) and Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ky./4th place/8.34).

The Bison advanced three athletes to the 60m finals: Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta/5th place/6.87); Richard Ninamou (Louisville, Ky./6th place/6.87) and Goba Dan-Princewell (Houston/7th place/6.88). All three achieved new personal bests.

Other notable performance included senior Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.) finishing third in the 300m (34.54 seconds).

In Annapolis, senior Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.) finished eighth overall in the weight throw with a toss of 15.90 meters (52'2"), narrowly missing the school record.
