NORFOLK, Va. (December 20, 2022) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its men's basketball weekly honors where Howard University freshman standout
Shy Odom (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) was named the league's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
In his first two career starts, Odom averaged 16.0 points, including 72-percent (13-of-18) from the field, while guiding the Bison to a pair of wins versus FIU (Dec. 13) and at Harvard (Dec. 18). Tuesday (Dec. 13), he dropped 14 points against the Panthers, followed by an 18-point performance (career-high) against the Crimson Sunday (Dec. 18).
This season, Odom has played in 10 contests (two starts) while shooting 49-percent (27-of-55) from the floor.
Redshirt junior
Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md.) earned honorable mention after averaging a double-double (11.0 rebounds & 9.5 points) against FIU and Harvard.
Coppin State senior guard Sam Sessoms and Norfolk State senior guard Joe Bryant, Jr. were selected MEAC Co-Players of the Week while the Spartans' graduate forward Kris Bankston earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Howard returns home for a matchup against Mount St. Mary's Wednesday (Dec. 21) at 2 p.m. in The Burr. The game will be broadcast on
