NORFOLK, Va. (November 22, 2022) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its men's basketball weekly honors where Howard University saw sophomore
Elijah Hawkins (Washington) and newcomer
Shy Odom (Chatsworth, Calif.) claim accolades. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
Hawkins won MEAC Co-Player of the Week while the California native earned the league's top rookie honor.
Last week, Hawkins scored double figures in all four contests, including an 18-point performance versus James Madison (Nov. 15). At the Paradise Jam, he produced 17 points and six assists against Wyoming, followed by 12 points in the win over Buffalo. The D.C. product closed out the tournament with 15 points against Belmont.
Odom opened the Paradise Jam with 10 points off the bench against Wyoming. The next day, he racked up 14 points and six boards in the victory over Buffalo. He finished the week with 28 total points, 11 total rebounds and four total steals.
Redshirt junior
Steve Settle, III (Glenarden, Md.) earned honorable mention after registering 14 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals against Wyoming.
Coppin State senior guard Sam Sessoms shared MEAC Player of the Week with Hawkins while Morgan State senior guard Malik Miller took home the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Howard gets a few days off before traveling to Clarksville, Tenn. to take on Austin Peay State in a nonconference match Saturday (Nov. 26). The game will tip off at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
