Howard Hosts High-Scoring James Madison University

It could be one of the most entertaining events in Burr Gymnasium this season when the Howard University men's basketball team host James Madison University on Tuesday. The game tips off at 7 pm and can be streamed on http://www.hubison.com.
The Dukes (3-0) enter the game as one of the highest scoring teams in Division I basketball with 108 points per games. JMU surpassed the century mark in opening wins over Valley Forge (123-38) and Howard rival, Hampton (106-58), before defeating Buffalo (97-62) this past Thursday.
The Dukes feature four players in double figure scoring in Takal Molson (15.3), Vado Morse (15.3), Terrence Edwards (11.7), and Alonzo Sule (10.7). On the season, JMU will test the Bison defense as it is shooting almost 60-percent from the floor and a sizzling 50-percent from beyond the arc.
"They are really effective on offense," Howard head coach Kenneth Blakeney explains. "They have older, stronger players who are very physical and they compete."

Blakeney continues, "On defense, they are well coordinated in terms of what they want to do. It will be a challenge for us."
The Bison (2-2) are coming off a home win over Gallaudet and have shown the ability to score.  Howard is averaging almost 84 points per game and boasts five players in double figure scoring, Elijah Hawkins (12.7), Steve Settles, III (11.8, Jordan Wood (11.5), Bryce Harris (10.0) and Kobe Dickson (10.0). Jelani Williams comes in at almost 10 per game (9.5).

Blakeney notes, "Anytime you have five players who average in double figures, it is a formula for how we want to play. It means we are sharing the ball. It makes the game a lot easier when you consistently play that way."

The formula for Howard has been its ability to spread the wealth (74 assists on 114 baskets). On defense, Howard will be looking to continue its success, where it has forced 67 turnovers so far.
Another key factor will be the use of its increased depth that has been tested through the first four contests due to injuries. Khalil Robinson, Dickson and Shy Odom have all missed time in the first four contests. It has allowed players like Marcus Dockery, Miles Stewart and Thomas Weaver to pick up the slack.
This will be the first time that JMU has visited The Mecca. The two schools have played three times in the past, all in Harrisonburg, VA. The Dukes lead the series, 2-1, with Howard having won their last meeting, 68-65 in 2004.
BISON HOOVES: Howard Coach Blakeney is no stranger to JMU, having served as an assistant coach under legendary Lefty Driesell in 1995-96...Howard Assistant AD of Media Relations Jalisa Fulwood is an alum of JMU...Howard will go on the road for five straight games and six of the next seven, including four games at the Paradise Jam in the US Virgin Islands (November 18-21).
