WASHINGTON (November 12, 2022) - Although the Howard University men's basketball record stands at 1-2 in the early season, head coach
Kenneth Blakeney knows that it is a long season and so many things can happen, especially when it is work-in-progress.
The Bison opened the season getting overwhelmed by the University of Kentucky in Lexington. They then followed with a hard-fought win over a pesky University of the District of Columbia team. They then had to travel across town to take on Atlantic 10 and crosstown rival, George Washington University (GW) Friday (Nov. 11).
Through each game, there has been some evaluating. Injuries have played a part so far, but there are signs of steady progress and improvement.
In the loss at GW, the Bison were victimized by some good shooting from the Colonials (55-percent), but there were some positive takeaways. Four players finished in double figures and Howard recorded a noteworthy 20 assists on 28 baskets.
Moreover, the Bison have six players averaging double figures:
Steve Settle, III (14.0, 6.0 rpg),
Jordan Wood (12.7 ppg),
Bryce Harris (11.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg),
Elijah Hawkins (11.5 ppg, 3.0 apg),
Jelani Williams (10.7 ppg, 5.3 apg) and
Kobe Dickson (10.0 ppg)
There is no rest for the weary as Howard continues its season Sunday (Nov. 13) when it hosts another crosstown foe in Gallaudet, which will be playing its first game of the season. Tipoff is noon and the game will be streamed on
