Bison Defeat Eagles in DC Dual Meet

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 29, 2022) - The men of Howard University swimming and diving started their weekend with a 138-102 win over American University in the Reeves Aquatic Center Friday afternoon.
 

The men kicked off the afternoon with a 1st place finish in the 200-yard medley relay consisting of staples Miles Simon (Atlanta, Ga.), Mark-Anthony Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas), Taj Benton (Baltimore, Md.), and Spencer Miles (Lynchburg, Va.). This marks the Bison's third win in the event this season.

 

For the 2nd meet in a row, senior Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) earned the top finish in the 1000-free with a time of 9:56.65. The Bahamian native would go on to post another individual win in the 500-free.

 

Miles Simon went on to win his first individual medal of the day in the 200-free.

 

In a nail biting race down to the tenths, Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) continued to dominate the 50-Free with a time of 20.96 - his best time this year and third consecutive win in the event. The senior would go on to pick up his second individual medal of the afternoon in the 100-Free

 

Keeping the winning momentum going, sophomore Tai Afrik won the 400-IM swimming it in 4:44.94.

 

Freshman Taj Benton continued to have a strong showing in the 200-butterfly, winning the event with a time of 1:56.89

 

The Bison's Darien Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) nearly picked up Howard's eighth win of the event in the 200-backstroke. The earned runner-up by only 0.32 seconds.

 

Howard went on to dominate the 200-breaststroke claiming the top three finishes. Niles Rankin (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) earned 1st place with a time of  2:10.67.

 

Capping the evening with a victory, HU finished strong in the 200-free relay consisting of Miles Simon, Spencer Miles, Taj Benton, and Mark-Anthony Beckles.


The Bison welcome the VMI Keydets in their final home meet of the year this afternoon at 1 P.M.
