SOMERSET, N.J. (October 12, 2022) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) revealed its swimming & diving weekly honors where Howard University saw four Bison acknowledged for their outstanding performers during the first three weeks of competition. The announcement came Wednesday afternoon.
Senior
Miles Simon (Atlanta) led the way, earning NEC Swimmer of the Week, while second-year Bison
Jordan Walker (San Antonio) claimed the league's Diver of the Week. Newcomers
Taj Benton (Baltimore) and
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) took home the conference's Rookie of the Week accolades.
This season, Simon holds the top times in several conference categories: 50 freestyle (19.89); 50 backstroke (22.38); 100 backstroke (50.49) and 200 IM (1:53.94). Saturday (Oct. 8), the senior took gold in the 100 free (45.72) and 200 IM (1:57.28) against Mount St. Mary's in a dual meet and opened the home slate with a victory in the 200 IM at the Battle at the Burr versus crosstown rival Georgetown (Oct. 1). On Sept. 23, he clocked in at 19.89 in the leg of the 200 Free Relay, which ranked second-fastest in the nation after opening weekend.
Walker placed first in the 1-meter dive competition against Mount St. Mary's, compiling 209.70 points. The San Antonio native also finished fourth at Battle at the Burr, racking up 217.25 points in the same event.
Entering this weekend, Benton sits atop of the NEC in three events: 50 Fly (22.87); 100 Fly (49.93) and 200 Fly (1:58.04). At the Battle at the Burr, the rookie clocked a 49.93 to win the 100 fly and swam a 1:58.04 time to take first place in the 200 Fly versus The Mount.
Nwaeze received the top rookie honor for the second straight week. On Oct. 8, she led off in the 400 Free Relay against The Mount, producing the second-fastest mark in the NEC (53.69).
The Maryland product also won the 200 Fly (2:11.12; second-fastest in NEC) and helped the Bison secure a victory in the 400 Medley Relay (4:00.13), covering the 100 Fly in 59.34 (third-fastest in NEC). At the Battle at the Burr, she previously recorded the fastest NEC time in the event, touching at 58.61.

Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) and
Teyana Johnson (San Antonio) were named to the NEC Prime Performers list.
The Bison are back in the pool Friday, October 28 at 5 p.m. as they compete against American University at the Reeves Aquatic Center.
