JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 26, 2021) – Howard University junior
Kameron Davis (Miami) and
Casimir Tawiah (Lexington Park, Md.) came up short at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Both Bison competed in the 110-meter hurdles where they finished 28
th and 35
th, respectively.
"You always feel a level of disappointment for the guys when you don't advance, especially after all the hard work and effort they've put in," said Director of Track & Field
David Oliver. "But they have nothing to hang their heads about because it's been nearly a decade since we've had a men's hurdler make it to the postseason. This year, we had two and I'm very proud of Kam (
Kameron Davis) and CJ (
Casimir Tawiah)."
Davis posted a new personal best (13.95), but fell just below the qualifying mark of 13.91.
"Kam coming out and running a new personal best is a great boost for him going into next year," Oliver stated. "He's got two more seasons and we'll be back at this level and beyond. This was a great learning experience."
The Miami native ended his year with a pair of medals at the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships, placing second in the 110-meter hurdles while guiding the 4x400 relay squad to a third-place finish.
Tawiah ran the same heat with Davis, recording a 14.13 time.
"CJ represented us well all year long," Oliver explained. "I know he's disappointed with his performance today, but this has been a major adjustment for him during unprecedented circumstances. I'm proud of how he's handled things all year."
At this year's MEAC Outdoor Championships, Tawiah joined Davis on the podium after earning a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay event.
Coach Oliver and the men's team look ahead to the 2021-22 season.
"Our men's team is on the rise," Oliver ended. "I'm looking forward to getting ready for the 2021-2022 year."
