Howard Faces Drexel in Mid-Week Softball Action

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- After a two-week layoff, the Howard University softball team will get back into the swing of things, facing CAA conference foe Drexel University in a mid-week doubleheader Thursday, April 6. The first game is set to start at 2:00 p.m. ET at the Drexel Softball Field in Philadelphia, Pa. 

Howard (9-8) is coming off a 17-day layoff, dropped their last series versus Norfolk State. Drexel (10-3) dropped their weekend series versus Delaware. Drexel opened up their season sweeping Coppin State in a four-game series. 

SERIES: Drexel leads 5-1

The Bison recorded their first victory during head coach Victoria Tyson's rookie season on April 30, 2019, 5-2 before dropping game two 2-5. 

The Bison is 1-3 on the road versus the Dragons.

Howard

The Bison suffered a major setback versus Norfolk St. losing four starters during the four-game series.

Howard .302 batting average leads the MEAC and is ranked 46th in the nation. The Bison also leads the conference in doubles per game (1.47), fielding percentage (.958)

Camille Navarro continues to pace the offense out the lead-out spot. Navarro saw her 17-game hit streak end versus NSU, but her on-base streak continues, reaching base safely in 18-straight games dating back to last season. Navarro batting average (.417), doubles per game (.470), stolen bases per game (.71) leads the MEAC. She ranks first in the nation in the toughest to strike out one of 12 players to not strike out this season. 

Kiana Carr's two saves lead the MEAC and rank 28th in the NCAA. Her 75 strikeout ranks 88th in the nation.

Drexel

The Drangons comes into Thursday match-up looking to rebound from their weekend series 2-1 loss to Delaware. 

Drexel opened the season with seven straight wins they are 3-3 in their last six games. 

Drexel's offense is paced by shortstop Linda Rush, with a .595 batting average that leads the nation. Rush recorded 14 RBIs, four home runs versus Coppin St. 

Drexel offense (.356 batting average)ranks fifth in the nation. The Dragons lead their conference in fielding percentage (.978), on-base percentage (.455), and scoring (8.69).

Howard will return to MEAC play and face Morgan State University Lady Bears in a four-game weekend series.
