BALTIMORE, MD -- Howard University splits doubleheader Monday afternoon against the Coppin State University Lady Eagles. The Bison defeated Coppin St. 7-0, behind the arm of Kiana Carr 12 strikeouts. Miscues and errors cost Howard game two as the Lady Eagles walked away with a 10-2 decision.
GAME 1 | Howard 7, Coppin 0
Kiana Carr recorded her tenth win of the season, dominating the Lady Eagles, tying her Howard record 12 strikeouts. Karr recorded eight strikeouts in the first three innings.
The Bison close the door on the Lady Eagles' chances of making the 2021 MEAC softball tournament.
Howard broke the ice in the top of the second inning with back-to-back doubles to plate Sydni Jones on a Raye Thomas RBI double. Thomas would later score on an error.
The Bison broke the game open in the top of the fourth. Camille Navarro knocked an RBI single up the middle, Nevaeh Castruita was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second when Kalita Dennis smashed a two-RBI triple to center field, expanding the lead, 5-0. Dennis later scored on a Natalie Davila home run to left field to cap the scoring, 7-0.
Carr and the Bison defense took care of Coppin State the rest of the way as the Lady Eagles did not get past first base.

GAME 2 | CSU 10- HOWARD 2
Howard opened game two strong, recording two runs on an error. The Bison could not overcome miscues and mistakes, falling to Coppin State 10-2 in game two.
The Lady Eagles recorded four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. CSU held the Bison scoreless the rest of the way while adding two runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning.
With the loss, Howard is mathematically eliminated from the 2021 MEAC Softball Tournament.
