ANNAPOLIS, Md. & CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 4, 2021) – Howard University men's track & field team opened the new indoor season strong at the Navy Invitational, hosted by Navy, and the Ivy & HBCU Challenge, hosted by Harvard.
Howard saw most of its success in the Northeast, starting with senior hurdler
Jermanie Byrd (Miami) winning the 60-meter hurdles. The Miami product clocked in at 7.98.
Sophomore
Zachary Hawkins (Loganville, Ga.) also competed in the short hurdles, claiming second place behind Byrd with an 8.03 mark.
In the field, rookie
Sean Wray (Spotsylvania, Va.) made a splash by winning the long jump. The Virgnia native leaped over 23 feet (7.29 meters).
Fellow classmate and DMV native
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) found success in the triple jump, launching nearly 48 feet (14.63 meters), which earned him third place.
At the Navy Invite, senior
Gavin Williams (Dover, Del.) represented HU in the mile run and took third overall with a time of 4:19.16.
Howard returns after the New Year for the Wagner Invitational (Jan. 7), hosted by Wagner College.
