Game Notes
- Monday matchup is the first regular-season meeting between the two women's basketball programs.
- Howard's 24 turnovers were the most turnover since committing 25 turnovers in an 82-53 loss to #24 South Florida.
- Howard's freshmen Nyla Cooper [Fayetteville, N.C.], Nia Nelson [Charlotte, N.C.], and Amirah Allen [Raleigh, N.C.] return back to their home state of North Carolina.
- Howard's first six games are on the road to tip-off the season. Then, Howard returns home to Burr Gymnasium on Dec. 1 versus Loyola (M.D.) for a 7 pm tipoff.
- Howard remains in Washington, D.C., for the month of December.
About the Bison
- The 2020-21 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division Champions fell in the finals of the 2021 conference tournament. However, the Bison took the league by storm last season. Despite the pandemic, Howard went 10-2 in conference play and 15-4, with non-conference wins versus LaSalle, George Washington, Mt. Saint Mary's, and Richmond.
- The Bison were selected No. 1 in the MEAC Preseason Poll.
- Three Bison was named to the Preseason All-MEAC Team, Anzhane' Hutton, Kaiya Creek, and Iyanna Warren.
- Howard head coach Ty Grace enters her seventh season at the helm, named 2020-21 MEAC Coach of the Year.
- The Bison only lost one starter from last season's team.
- Howard posted the best regular-season winning percentage (.823) in school history last season. In addition, the Bison's defense ranked sixth nationally in field-goal percentage defense (33.9) and three-point field goal defense (25.6). Howard's 28.9 defensive rebounds ranked 30th in the NCAA led by 2020-21 Rookie of the Year Anzhane' Hutton. Hutton was also named to the All-MEAC second team, All-Rookie, and All-Defensive team.

Howard University women's basketball fells to the University of North Texas 94-56 in the Super Pit.
Howard jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on a Gia Thorpe [Pittsburgh, Pa.] layup right out the gate. However, the Mean Green answered back on a mid-range jumper to tie the game and spark a 13-2 run over the next three-minute to take a 15-4 lead at the 6:42 minute mark.
Warren led the Bison offense, recording 19 points and four assists, two points shy of a career-high. Hutton recorded 11 points and seven rebounds. Krislyn Marsh [Houston, TX] recorded seven rebounds.
About the Pheonix
- Elon finished the 2020-21 season 7-8, 3-5 CAA.
- The Phoenix (1-0) edged reigning Big South Champion High Point on the road in its season opener on Nov. 9, 68-66.
- Brie Perpignan paced the maroon and gold in scoring with 23 points, posting a career-high nine field goals on the night. The senior also finished just one assist shy of per personal best with six in addition to tying Evonna McGill for the team-high in rebounds (7).
- Other double-digit scorers included McGill (15) and Ariana Nance (12). McGill went 5-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from behind the charity stripe, while Nance made three-of-eight field goals and all five free throws. Nance also matched her personal best in blocks (2).
- Elon was picked to place sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll. Perpignan was also named All-CAA honorable mention.
- -Charlotte Smith is in her 11th season as head coach. Her coaching record at Elon currently stands at 170-130, just three wins away from breaking the program record for all-time wins.
