NORFOLK, Va. (March 6, 2020) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its bracket seedings for the 2020 Basketball Tournament where the Howard University men's and women's basketball teams are set to play South Carolina State (SCSU) Tuesday (March 10) inside the Norfolk Scope Arena. The announcement came Friday morning.
HU women meet the Lady Bulldogs at 2 p.m., while the Bison men take on SCSU in the nightcap at 8 p.m.
On the women's side, guards
Jayla Thornton (Newark, N.J.) and
Ayonna Williams (Washington) guided the Bison over Delaware State, 76-71, inside Burr Gymnasium on Senior Night. With the win, HU finished the regular season 15-14 (7-9 MEAC) while securing the No. 7 seed.
Entering Tuesday's clash against SCSU, Howard dominated South Carolina State in their lone meeting of the year at Burr Gymnasium, 78-47. Five Bison reached double figures, led by Thornton with 14 points.
For the men, senior guard
Charles Williams (Richmond, Va.) ended the regular season scoring 30 points in the loss to DSU, 88-100, on Senior night in Burr Gymnasium. HU arrives in Norfolk serving as the No. 10 seed.
Tuesday's showdown features HU seeking payback versus the Bulldogs after dropping a 95-101 OT loss back in January at The Burr. Williams paced all scorers with a season-high 34 points.
North Carolina Central men and Bethune-Cookman women each won the conference regular season crown and will serve as this year's top seeds, respectively.
The five-day event (March 10-14) will take place inside the Norfolk Scope Arena.
