CLEVELAND (March 12, 2020) – Howard University saw 13 Bison compete at the 2020 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) where they ended the 2019-20 campaign with outstanding performances.
Senior
Maalik Nixon (Peachtree City, Ga.) junior
Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) and freshmen
Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) and
Miles Simon (Atlanta) took part in the men's 200 Free Relay where they finished 10
th overall, clocking in with the school's third-fastest mark (1:22.30).
Individually, Beckles recorded a pair of school top 10 performances in the men's 50 Free (20.88) and 100 Fly (49.63). The Trinidad & Tobago native placed sixth and second, respectively.
Fellow classmate
Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.) also took part in those events, finishing 14
th overall in the 50 Free and fifth all-time in the program's 100 Fly (49.83).
Ford also competed in the 50 Free where he landed tied for 10
th in program history (20.92).
Simon placed 13
th in the men's 50 Back, producing a 23.13 time in the finals.
Junior
William Speakman Smith II (Jacksonville, Fla.) and second-year swimmer
Miguel Davis, Jr. (Washington) competed in the men's 50 and 200 Breast where both Bison had incredible performances. In the 50 Breast, Davis placed 14
th overall (26.21) while Smith took 18
th place (25.93). The 200 Breast saw Davis with the school's seventh-best time (2:08.31) and Smith etching the program's fourth-fastest (2:07.22), respectively.
Freshman
T'lez Foulkes (Durham, N.C.) also took part in the 50 Breast, placing 16
th overall (25.83). In the 100 Breast, he recorded the fourth-best time in school history (56.78).
Other notable men's performances included newcomer
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) ending his freshman campaign with the school's third-fastest time in the 200 IM (1:54.31).
On the women's side, sophomore
India Jackson (Philadelphia) and freshman
Ilena Bocage (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) competed in the 50 Breast.
During the 2019-20 year, HU shattered 22 school records, including 19 at the 2020 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships.
The men's and women's squads wrapped up the 2019-20 season and look to build upon this year's success entering the 2020-2021 campaign.
