WASHINGTON (January 9, 2020) – After a successful return from winter break, the Howard University men's and women's track and field teams look to keep the momentum going when they travel to New York City for the HBCU Battle. Friday's meet starts 11 a.m. and broadcasted live from The New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
 
Fans can follow all the action via Live Webcast (PPV live video) and/or live results.
 
General Admission: Adults $15, college students $5 with school ID and high school students free with school ID, children under 3 feet 6 inches free.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Both squads competed at the George Mason Father Diamond Invitational in Fairfax, Va., where several Bison qualified for the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships.
 
In the men's 60-meter dash, newcomers Richard Ninamou (Louisville, Ky.), Goba Dan-Princewill and Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) each made Landover in the preliminary round. Ninamou and Dan-Princewill clocked in at 6.94 apiece while Perry recorded a 7.00 mark.
 
For the women, junior sprinter Ameenah Saalih (Willingboro, N.J.) and sophomore thrower Diana Effiom (Dallas) headlined the afternoon with record-setting performances. Saalih won the women's 60-meter dash with a new school mark (7.54) while the Dallas native threw over 50 feet (15.38 meters).
 
MEET PREVIEW
 
A year ago, junior Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia) and sophomore Kennedy Lewis (Atlanta) placed first and second, respectively, in the women's 200-meter dash.
 
Junior Destiny Stanford (Woolwhich Township, N.J.) won the mile run while fellow classmate Rachel Edler (Stone Mountain, Ga.) claimed first place in the women's triple jump.
 
In his third year at the helm, Director of Track and Field David Oliver and the program continue to make strides. Currently, the Bison have more than a dozen student-athletes qualify for Landover with over a month remaining before Championship Season.
 
Wednesday (Jan. 8), the league unveiled its indoor track and field weekly honors where Saalih and sophomore hurdler Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ky.) earned recognition for their tremendous performances at the George Mason. Clyburn won MEAC Male Track Athlete of the Week while Saalih took home the conference's female track athlete of the week.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Next weekend (Jan. 17-18), the Bison are splitting among two meets.
 
A group travels to Blacksburg, Va., for a two-day meet at the Virginia Tech Invitational whereas the other group stays in the DMV area for a Saturday (Jan. 18) event in College Park, the Terrapin Invitational.
