MATCHUP PREVIEWS
HOWARD
HU (12-8, 4-3 MEAC) looks to keep the momentum going while moving up the league standings. Currently, Howard holds the fifth spot with a crucial five-game road swing on the horizon.
The league's No. 1 scoring offense is led by guards
Ayonna Williams (Washington) and
Jayla Thornton (Newark, N.J.). As of today, the duo ranks second (14.8 ppg) and fifth (13.4 ppg), respectively, in scoring.
MORGAN STATE
Morgan State (MSU) enters the weekend riding a four-game winning streak, including a victory over HU, 67-74, inside the Hill Field House. MSU (10-11, 6-2 MEAC) sits third in the conference standings through the midway point.
Senior guard Chelsea Mitchell leads the Lady Bears, producing 13.9 ppg and 9.0 rpg.
COPPIN STATE
Before coming to D.C., Coppin State (CSU) travels to Dover, Del., to face Delaware State. CSU (0-19, 0-7 MEAC) continues its search for win No. 1.
Senior forward Chance Graham spearheads the Eagles' attack, recording 10.3 ppg and 9.2 rpg.
LAST TIMEOUT
The women's basketball team delivered an exciting victory at home over the Florida A&M Rattlers, 72-58, Saturday (Jan. 25). Williams led the charge with 25 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Sophomore
Krislyn Marsh (Duncanville, Texas) followed suit, adding 16 points, seven rebounds, and three steals to the win.
Keeping up the momentum, the Bison secured another win in Baltimore Monday (Jan. 27) against Coppin State. In the 66-54 victory, Thornton led the team with 25 points and seven rebounds (career-high) while Williams joined the ranks of those Howard Bison who scored at least 1,000 career points.
PROMOTIONS
Saturday's Theme is Play 4 Kay in honor of the late Sandra Kay Yow, who passed away from Stage 4 Breast Cancer in 2009. Howard will wear Pink jerseys in honor of cancer survivors. Fans are encouraged to join the fight by wearing pink to the game.
Monday's promotion is International Night.
