WASHINGTON - Howard University softball will take on Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland for a three-game weekend series. The series kicks off with a doubleheader on Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. today. The series will conclude with a 4 p.m. game on Monday, April 22. The Coppin State Eagles will be the fourth Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponent of the season for Howard.
LAST TIMEOUT
The Bison are 4-3 in conference play, losing to Morgan State University, 8-4, last Sunday.
Despite their recent defeat, the Bison offense has continued to produce. They rank at the top of the conference in batting average (.288) and slugging percentage (.404), and rank third in on-base percentage (.353) and hits (258).
The freshman trio of
Kalita Dennis,
Camille Navarro and
Xzarria Simmons lead most of the offensive categories for Howard. Dennis leads the teams with a .441 batting average, along with five home runs and 28 RBIs. Her .441 average also ranks 16 in the nation. With 14 doubles in 34 games, Navarro ranks fifth in the nation in doubles per game.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Through 31 games this year, the Eagles have a 6-25 record overall and a 3-6 MEAC record. They have won one of their last five games, including a series sweep against conference opponent Norfolk State.
Meagan Navaez leads the team with a 22 hits this year, along with .310 batting average. In the circle, Madison Didion leads the team with 91.1 innings pitched and 78 strikeouts.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Bison will travel to Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, April 24 to face Drexel University in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
