WILIMINGTON, N.C. (March 8, 2019) – Howard University men's track & field squad displayed a solid outdoor debut at the Wendy's Seahawk Invitational, hosted by UNC-Wilmington.
Throwers
Mekhi Abbott (Monroe, N.J.) and
David Hudson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) headlined the men by qualifying for the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships in the javelin. Abbott finished runner-up after tossing 50.83m (166'77") while Hudson claimed fifth overall (46.19m; 151'54").
On the track, four Bison reached Saturday's 110-meter hurdles.
Freshman
Jermaine Byrd (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) ran the fastest time of any Bison, clocking in at 14.95. Fellow classmate
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.) came in afterward, followed by sophomore
KiShaun Carter (Brick, N.J.; 15.47) and newcomer
Corintheans Payne (Apopka, Fla.; 16.16).
Other notable performances included freshman
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) finishing second in the men's 5000-meter run (16:18.99) and senior
Korey Lombard making the 100-meter dash finals with a 11.01 mark.

Howard concludes the weekend in Wilmington, N.C. with day two, starting at 10 a.m. with field events. At noon, the running events begin with relays.
