Howard Lacrosse Hits the Road for a Pair of ASUN Matchups

HU meets Coastal Carolina on ESPN+

WASHINGTON (March 28, 2019) – Howard University women's lacrosse hits the road for a pair of Atlantic Sun (ASUN) matchups. Friday (March 29), HU goes to Conway, S.C. where the Coastal Carolina (CCU) Chanticleers await. Match time is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+. Sunday (March 31), the Bison meet Kent State (KSU) at 1 p.m.

LAST TIMEOUT
 
Last weekend, HU lost two contests against Delaware State (DSU) and Jacksonville (JU).
 
Friday (March 22), Howard dropped a tough bout at DSU, 14-11, inside Alumni Stadium. Sophomore Lailah Robey (Chesapeake Bay, Md.) had a team-high four goals, along with two ground balls and an assist in the loss.
 
Two days later (March 29), the Bison fell in their home opener versus reigning Atlantic Sun Champions Jacksonville, 24-3, inside Greene Stadium. Second-year midfielder Jillian Jones (Fresno, Calif.) led the way with three draw controls and two goals.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEWS
 
HOWARD
 
Howard (0-5, 0-1 ASUN) seeks their first win of the season while aiming for their first-ever win in ASUN play this weekend.
 
For the season, Jones leads the Bison offense with nine points on eight goals and one assist and Robey with six goals and one assist for seven points. Defensively, freshman Andrea Fievre (Snellville, Ga.) has been credited with 29 saves while senior Lauryn Smith (Philadelphia) has forced five turnovers.
 
COASTAL CAROLINA
 
CCU (6-2, 1-0 ASUN) enters the weekend with an unblemished home mark (5-0), including back-to-back thrillers against UConn, 15-14, and William & Mary, 12-11 (OT).
 
Recently, Haley Alexander won ASUN Player of the Week after totaling 10 points and becoming the Chanticleer's all-time leading goal scorer.
 
KENT STATE
 
Before Sunday's showdown with the Bison, KSU (0-10, 0-1 ASUN) takes on Delaware State Friday (March 29). Kent State searches for the program's first-ever victory this weekend.
 
Megan Kozar and Abby Jones are the top scorers for the Golden Flashes, registering 27 and 26 points, respectively.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Next weekend, head coach Karli Brentlinger and the Bison return home for matches against foes from the Great Lakes State.
 
Friday (April 5), Howard battles Detroit-Mercy at 1 p.m.
 
Two days later (April 7), HU takes on Central Michigan at Greene Stadium. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
