HU faces Bucknell in the Battle of the Bison

WASHINGTON (February 26, 2019) – Howard University women's lacrosse team opens its 2019 campaign in Lewisburg, Pa. where they will face Bucknell in the Battle of the Bison. Match time is set for 4:30 p.m.

Fans can follow all the action via live stats.

SEASON PREVIEW

HU enters the new season looking for a breakout season after going 1-12 (0-5 ASUN) a year ago.

"The majority of our sophomore class started last year," said Howard women's lacrosse head coach Karli Brentlinger. "I'm really looking for them to step up and emerge as leaders this season."

Coach Brentlinger's squad brings back 2018 ASUN All-Freshmen honoree sophomore Jillian Jones (Fresno, Calif.), who ranked second on the team in total goals (13) and points (13) a year ago.

Last season, fellow classmate Lailah Robey (Chesapeake Bay, Md.) filled the stat sheet in the win over District of Columbia with three assists, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls.

Jones and Robey were selected to the 2019 ASUN Preseason Watch List.

Newcomers Kiyanna Jackson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Sydney Saunders (Baltimore) look to make big contributions in their first season for the Bison.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Wednesday's matchup will be the seventh meeting with Bucknell winning the previous six contests.

HOWARD

HU enters projected to finish seventh in the ASUN standings.

Along with Jones and Robey, senior Lauryn Smith (Philadelphia) leads all returners with 30 games played in her collegiate career. Coach Brentlinger's squad consists of 17 freshmen and sophomores with only one junior (Alayah Hightower; Hanover, Md.) and two seniors (Smith and Latroya Pina; Seeknok, Mass.).

"We have some exciting newcomers," Brentlinger added. "I can't wait to see the team continue to grow and develop this season."

BUCKNELL

Bucknell (0-3) seeks their first win of the season after being toppled against #14 Virginia Tech, 14-4, Hofstra, 13-4 and Albany, 18-9.

Before the year, Bucknell was picked to finish ninth in the Patriot League after placing ninth with a 1-8 conference record a year ago.

Last season, Jamisen DeWitt, 2019 Preseason All-Patriot League Team, finished ninth nationally in saves per game (10.75) after the 2018 campaign.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

On March 6, Howard goes to nearby American for a crosstown showdown. Match time is slated for 3 p.m.
