WASHINGTON (February 25, 2019)-The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) awarded Howard University softball first baseman Kalita Dennis with the Rookie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.

Dennis went 9-for-16 (.563 batting average) with four RBIs. She performed notably in Howard's 4-3 win against the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), where she went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. She recorded a double and triple, falling just a home run short of the cycle.

Through her first 14 collegiate games this season, Dennis is batting .442 with 19 hits and 25 total bases.

Howard softball head coach Tori Tyson commented on the MEAC honor for Dennis saying, "Kalita is truly a special athlete. To be just a freshman, she makes such quick adjustments and has some of the quickest hands I've ever seen. This is only the beginning of all that Kalita will do in a Bison uniform."

The Bison own a 3-11 record this season. Dennis expects to play in the team's upcoming tournament at Georgetown University from March 2-3.
