Howard Women’s Basketball Looks to Stay Hot at the San Juan Shootout

Bison set for a pair of matchups against Bucknell and Washington

WASHINGTON (November 26, 2019) – Howard University women's basketball team wraps up its four-game road swing in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the San Juan Shootout.
 
Wednesday (Nov. 27), Howard meets Bucknell (BU) in the Battle of the Bison. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. (ET) After Thanksgiving (Nov. 29), HU faces Pac-12 foe Washington (UW) at noon (ET).
 
Both contests will be streaming live on FloHoops (PPV).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Sunday (Nov. 24), HU defeated Hofstra, 73-64, inside the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
 
Senior guard and New York native Sarah Edmond (Freeport) led the Bison attack with her first double-double of the season, posting 18 points (game-high) and 10 rebounds.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEWS
 
HOWARD
 
HU (4-2) comes in riding a three-game winning streak. Nationally, Howard has been one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country, shooting over 37-percent (40-of-108) from beyond the arc.
 
The trio of Edmond (16.0 ppg), senior Ayonna Williams (12.8 ppg) and junior Jayla Thornton (12.3 ppg) are averaging 41.1 of the team's 71.2 ppg.
 
Recently, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) unveiled its women's basketball weekly honors where Edmond won MEAC Co-Player of the Week.
 
BUCKNELL
 
Wednesday's showdown will be the fourth meeting between Howard and Bucknell with BU winning the previous three contests.
 
Bucknell (2-3) enters the week suffering back-to-back losses for the first time this season at Quinnipiac (Nov. 16) and versus Temple (Nov. 20). Senior Ellie Mack paces BU with 17.8 points per game while scoring double-figures in each game this season, including a career-high 33 points at Quinnipiac.
 
WASHINGTON
 
Friday's matchup will be the first meeting between HU and Washington.
 
This season, Washington (3-1) has forced an impressive 107 turnovers through the first four games this season. Additionally, the Huskies have held three of its first four opponents under 50 points and ranks 20th in scoring defense (50.0 ppg), nationally.
 
Offensively, UW has five players averaging 9.0 ppg or better, led by Haley Van Dyke (12.3 ppg).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
After more than a week away from the hardwood, HU returns to The District where Fairleigh Dickinson awaits. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.
