Howard Men's Basketball continues Road Swing

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University men's basketball team returns to action in the Men Against Breast Cancer (MABC) Invitational Thursday, Nov. 21 at 8:00 p.m. against the Fighting Herd of Marshall University at Cam Henderson Arena in Huntington, West Virginia. 

 
News and Notes
:

  • Friday marks the second meeting between Marshall and Howard in men's basketball. The initial game was played on January 14, 1975, Marshall defeat the Bison 77-68.
  • Record Watch: Charles Williams (Richmond, Va.) is 45 points shy for the most career points as a Bison. The current record of 1,933 points is held by James Daniel. 
  • This is the fourth and final game in the MABC Invitational, Howard fell to Notre Dame (50-79), Robert Morris (65-85) and Toledo (68-112).
  • Howard was picked to finish sixth in the 11-team Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for the 2019-20 season, according to a poll of the leagues head coaches and sports information directors.
  • HU returns to the Mecca Saturday, Nov. 30 to host Mount St. Marys after seven consecutive road games.

  • The Howard University Bison dropped game three of the MABC Invitational 112-68 on Sunday afternoon at John F. Savage Arena to the University of Toledo Rockets.
  • Senior guard Charles "CJ" Williams (Richmond, Va.) recorded his second 20-point plus performance with a team-high 21 points. Freshman guard Ian Lee (Toronto, Canada) notched a career-high 12 points knocking down three 3-pointers, while sophomore guard Raymond Bethea, Jr. (Atlantic City, N.J.) pulled down a team-best seven boards.


MEN AGAINST BREAST CANCER INVITATIONAL

  • The "Men Against Breast Cancer Invitational" presented by FieldTurf is a non-conference collegiate basketball tournament featuring games at select campus venues throughout the country. The event is held in honor of "Men Against Breast Cancer" (MABC), a non-profit that provides knowledge, tools, and support services for men that are helping brave wives and mothers battling breast cancer. Breast cancer is an affliction that no woman should face alone, and men need to be informed of ways they can provide comfort and care for the women they love. For the 2019 season, FieldTurf is proud to present the MABC Invitational, featuring a ten-game round-robin tournament played at Notre Dame, Marshall, and Toledo, with Robert Morris and Howard.

  • Marshall defeated the Bison, 77-68 in their lone meeting on January 14, 1975.

  • The Herd is led by former NBA Coach Dan D'Antoni, he holds a 97-80 career record. 
  • Marshall comes into Thursday contest off a 77-67 loss to the College of Charleston. 
  • Marshall is 1-2 in the invitation defeating Robert Marshall, dropped games to Notre Dame and Toledo. 
  • Marshall finished last season 23-13 and 11-7 in conference play.
  • In post-season play, the Herd went 1-1 in the conference tournament.
  • Marshall captured the 2019 CIT Championship going 4-0 in CIT Tournament play.

  • Howard will end their road swing where it started, in Washington, D.C. this time against American University Tuesday, Nov. 26 with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
