WASHINGTON (November 14, 2019) – Howard University women's basketball team added seven new faces during the early signing period Tuesday, featuring student-athletes from five different states and three from the DMV area.
 
"I'm really excited about this incoming class," said Howard women's basketball head coach Ty Grace. "This is another talented group of young women to add to the culture of Howard women's basketball. Each one of them display a different skill set and personality that will bring tremendous value and excitement to our program. They will be fun to watch over the next four years on and off the court."
 
Here is more information on the seven newcomers:
 
Kiaya Creek (Fairfax Starz EYBL/National Christian Academy/Seat Pleasant, Md.) - Guard
 
Creek comes to the Hilltop by way of Seat Pleasant, Md., which is approximately 30 minutes away from D.C. The Maryland native played for the Fairfax Starz EYBL while attending National Christian Academy.
 
"Kaiya is another big guard, who is hard nose and tough," Grace commented. "She can play multiple positions and will be a match-up nightmare for many [opponents]."
 
Cashay Dixon (Baylor Basketball/Simeon H.S./Chicago) - Guard
 
Dixon arrives to The District after winning the 2019 AAU National Championship with Baylor Basketball. The Chicago product attended Simeon H.S. where she was a three-time city champion.
 
"Cashay [Dixon] is a crafty guard with solid three-point range," said Grace. "[She] is an aggressive defender, [who] will be a consistent two-way player for us. She hails from two winning high school and AAU programs out of Chicago."
 
Kaniyah Harris (Fairfax Starz EYBL/Charles Herbert Flowers H.S./Capital Heights, Md.) - Guard
 
Before coming to the Mecca, Harris played AAU for the Fairfax Starz EYBL, alongside Kiaya Creek. She was named 2018-19 Prince George's County Player of the Year and a MPSSAA 4A Champion.
 
"Kaniyah [Harris] is [a] composed combo guard, who can run your offense or score the ball," Grace stated. "She is a smart player who will do whatever it takes to help her team win. She is equally talented in the classroom as well."
 
In the classroom, Harris has accumulated a 4.25 GPA and a member of the National Honors Society.
 
Destiny Howell (IEXCEL/St. Francis H.S./Queens, N.Y.) - Wing
 
Howell hails from the Empire State where she played for the AAU IEXCEL. In her high school career, the New York native earned several honors while scoring a career-high 32 points in a single game.
 
"[I'm] very proud to keep my New York ties [with Destiny Howell]," Grace admitted. "Destiny is a big versatile wing, who can shoot the three and put it on the deck as well. Her versatility will create opportunities for us on both ends of the floor. She's a natural leader."
 
Anzhane' Hutton (Drive Nation EYBL/Cedar Hill H.S./Cedar Hill, Texas) - Forward
 
Hutton brings her talents from the Lone Star State to D.C. after an illustrious high school career. The Texas product played AAU for the Drive Nation EYBL where she received numerous accolades, including two-time First Team All-District.
 
"[She's] a super athletic undersized post," said Grace on Hutton. "Nae' [Anzhane Hutton] is [a] relentless worker. She is aggressive, gritty and a tremendous rebounder. I look forward to watching her flourish."
 
Hutton averaged a double-double, posting 15 ppg and 11 rpg.
 
Ja'la Wade (S.C. 76ers/Westwood H.S./Columbia, S.C.) - Forward
 
Wade reaches HU by the way of Columbia, S.C., where she played AAU for the S.C. 76ers. The South Carolina native was named the 2018-19 Basketball Newcomer of the Year and 4A Top 5 Senior.
 
"Ja'la [Wade] will add some much needed size for us," Grace acknowledged. "She is a mobile post who can run the floor, block shots and has a nice touch inside. Ja'la has tremendous upside and the best is yet to come."
 
Aniya Wilson (Team Durant/Oxon Hill H.S./Accokeek, Md.) - Guard
 
Wilson arrives to Howard after playing for Team Durant in the AAU circuit. The local product rejoins freshman Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) by the way of Oxon Hill H.S.
 
"Aniya [Wilson] is a great athlete with tremendous work ethic," Grace added. "She is a gym rat, who can get out in transition and loves to play the game. [She's] a very humble and coachable young woman."
 
Wilson registered 15 ppg while grabbing five boards per game.
