Howard University Basketball to host 'Own the Night'

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In an effort to engage the Washington, D.C. community through an evening of positivity and sportsmanship, and to promote initiatives around public safety, the Howard University Department of Athletics and the Office of the President will host, "Own the Night," an exhibition men's basketball game against the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, on Friday, Nov. 1 at 9 p.m. in Burr Gymnasium.

"Howard University is committed to partnering with our community neighbors to create safe places for our youth to live, play and learn." – Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick, M.D., MBA

"Own the Night" is FREE and open to the public. Special appearances will include the Showtime Marching Band, HU Cheerleaders and the Bisonnettes. Come out for an evening of prizes, giveaways, food and MUCH MORE! Fans will have a chance to win suite tickets to the Morgan State football game on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Friday's exhibition match will be the final tune-up for the Bison.

The Bison will open the Kenneth L. Blakeney era November 4, versus the Washington Adventist Shockers.  Director of Athletics Kery Davis had announced the hiring of Blakeney as Howard University's 10th head men's basketball in program history in May.

The Washington D.C. native returns nine players from last year squad led by preseason All-MEAC selection Charles Williams. Williams recorded 1,794 career points and is 139 points shy of the most career points at Howard University, currently held by James Daniel (1,933).
