NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior Charles Willams enters his final season at Howard University with another award to his name after being selected to the 2019 Preseason All-MEAC Men's Basketball First Team as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Wednesday.
The Richmond, Virginia native ranked second in scoring (17.9) in the MEAC, ninth in 3-point percentage, and 12
th in 3-pointers made last season.
Williams recorded 1,794 career points and is 139 points shy of the most career points at Howard University, currently held by James Daniel (1,933).
Howard was selected to finished sixth.
All awards were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Bethune-Cookman University senior forward Cletrell Pope was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year, North Carolina Central was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the MEAC this season.
The 2019-20 season begins Tuesday, Nov. 5, versus Washington Adventist University at Burr Gymnasium, the game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM tipoff; the MEAC will have seven teams in action.
The 2020 MEAC Basketball Tournament will be held March 10-14 at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
