David Oliver and the Howard University men's track & field team competed in two meets over the weekend at the HBCU Battle (Jan. 11) and Great Dane Classic (Jan. 12), hosted by Albany.
Over the two-day span, senior runner
Tariq Fullerton (Kingston, Jamaica) led the way with a couple solid performances.
Friday, the Jamaica native won the men's mile run with a 4:28.79 mark. The following day, he registered a 1:56.52 time in the 800-meter run while placing second overall.
Sophomore
Mekhi Closson (Baltimore) fell just shy of qualifying for the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships in the men's 400-meter dash. At the HBCU Battle, the Baltimore product earned sixth overall after a 49.52 time.
In the field events, second-year jumper
Nathaniel Are (Chicago) posted a personal best in the men's triple jump (13.15m; 43'1") at the Great Dane Classic.

Friday (Jan. 18), Howard returns to the Empire State for the New York City Gotham Cup in Staten Island, N.Y. The action starts 2 p.m.
