Baltimore, MD (September 25, 2018) --- Howard volleyball forced five sets in Reitz Arena on Tuesday at Loyola. After going back and forth with set win the Greyhounds ultimately prevailed over the Bison (23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-17, 11-15).
Howard was led by senior outside hitter
Courtney Dalton with a team-high 15 kills off 36 attempts. Sophomore outside hitter
Jurnee Tipton had 14 kills, 19 digs and two assists; senior setter
Tamia Dockery had 48 assists and four kills.
Howard dropped the first set after they were up 22-18 over Loyola. The Greyhounds came from behind and won the set, 25-23.
The Bison responded in the second set. The match was close throughout the set but Howard closed it at 25-23.
Set three saw HU go down by 8 points after being tied 17-17. The Greyhounds went on a 9 point run that kept Bison out of reach of the set win.
In set four Howard came ready to attack. The Bison dominated the match, leaving the Greyhounds with very little opportunity to win after trailing.
The Greyhounds took advantage of set five. They maintained a fairly steady lead and won the game in that match with a score of 11-15.
Marcelle Butler had 11 kills.
Kira Porter posted four kills, two aces and two blocks.
Tamia Dockery had 48 assists and four kills.
Olubunmi Okunade had six kills and a block.
Fola Wilson contributed 28 digs and an ace.
Antonia Kearney had 18 digs and an ace.
Howard is back in action on Friday, Sept. 28, to face its first conference opponent of the season. They face Morgan State University at 7 p.m. for Organization Night.
