WASHINGTON (August 31, 2018) – Director of Track & Field
David Oliver and the Howard University Men's & Women's Cross Country teams open their 2018 campaign by hosting the Labor Day Class at Kenilworth Park (4046 Deane Ave., NE, Washington, D.C. 20019).
Saturday's meet begins with the women at 10 a.m., followed by the men approximately 10:45 a.m. The event is FREE to the public.
SEASON OUTLOOK
With a full offseason under his belt, Director Oliver and the Bison are driven to be better for the upcoming 2018 season.
A year ago, Director Oliver took over the program nearly a couple weeks before the 2017 campaign. After the two-month whirlwind season, the HU Athletic Hall of Famer began the rebuilding process.
"The rebuilding process was not going to be an overnight thing," Oliver stated last week. "But we have the pieces in place to build for years to come."
With a competitive season on the horizon, HU looks to every meet as the next step in preparation for Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Championships in Smyrna, Del.
MEET PREVIEW
Kenilworth Park is a spectator friendly, flat grass course nestled alongside the Anacostia River with great site lines.
Both men and women will run a 5K race throughout the park with awards being presented to the top seven finishers of each gender.
Despite the departure of
Mohamed Bah due to graduation, the Howard men will have a full complement of runners. Key veterans returning for the men include lone senior
Tariq Fullerton (Kingston, Jamaica) and second-year runner
Malik Kosanovich (Lawrenceville, Ga.).
For the women, All-MEAC selection sophomore
Destiny Stanford (Woolwhich Township, N.J.) returns to lead the squad after three top 10 finishes from a year ago.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Saturday (Sept. 8), Howard goes to New Market, Va. for the James Madison Invitational. Meet starts 10 a.m.
