WASHINGTON (April 5, 2018) –
Due to incoming inclement weather, Coach Lauren McCoy
and the Howard University Softball team has altered its weekend series at Coppin State (CSU).
Both squads are scheduled for a Friday (April 6) doubleheader, beginning 5 p.m. at CSU Softball Complex.
The third game in this Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) bout has been moved to Tuesday, April 24 at 3 p.m.
Howard (3-28, 1-5 MEAC) seeks to snap its seven-game slide while moving up the standings. As of today, the Bison sit sixth in the MEAC Northern Division; however, only two losses behind Coppin State for the final slot. Offensively, senior Brooklyn Emory
and freshman Jocelyn Avera
provide the combination of speed and power.
Before Friday's showdown, CSU 9-12 (6-3 MEAC) goes to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on Rider in a nonconference doubleheader. Currently, Coppin State holds the fourth and final spot in the conference's northern division. Nia Bowe, two-time MEAC Rookie of the Week, leads the Eagles' attack while Madison Didion spearheads CSU's pitching staff.
Last Friday (March 30), the Bison manufactured 14 hits but were unable to take down the Morgan State Lady Bears as they fell in extras, 8-7, at the Nationals Youth Academy. Emory and freshman Trinity Gibbs
led the charge with a team-high three hits apiece.
The next day (March 31), HU dropped both games versus rival Morgan State. Howard lost game one, 9-3, and then the Bison's comeback fell short in the nightcap, 8-6. In game two, Avera led the way, going 2-of-3 at the plate with a pair of stolen bases and a walk.
HU returns to D.C. for a three-game series against Norfolk State (April 14-15).
Saturday's twinbill starts at 1 p.m. while Sunday's seven-inning contest begins at noon.
