@HowardUniSB Welcomes Delaware State in Home Weekend Finale

Bison square off against struggling Lady Hornets

WASHINGTON (April 20, 2018) – Coach Lauren McCoy and the Howard University Softball team welcome Delaware State (DSU) in their home weekend finale at the Nationals Youth Academy.
 
Saturday's (April 21) twinbill is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday's (April 22) seven-inning game starts at noon.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Howard (4-34, 2-9 MEAC) enters the weekend looking to snap its five-game skid while seeking a late season charge. HU sits in the sixth spot with only four conference games after this weekend. Freshman Trinity Gibbs (.324) and Kamryn Tillman (.310) are the lone Bison averaging over .300 on the season.
 
DSU (9-25, 7-5 MEAC) comes in dropping its last seven outings and 2-8 in their last 10 contests. In league play, the Lady Hornets are among the conference best, hitting .333 (110-of-330) overall. Currently, Delaware State holds the fourth and final spot with only three games remaining after this weekend.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Saturday (April 14), HU was defeated twice versus Norfolk State (NSU) at Nationals Youth Academy. NSU edged out HU in game one, 2-0, and then the Bison fell 18-1 in the nightcap. In game two, freshman Alyssa Lavine was hit by pitch with bases loaded to score senior Brooklyn Emory.
 
The next day (April 15), the Bison lost its series finale against NSU, 10-5, at Nationals Youth Academy. Lavine delivered a huge two-run single in a losing effort.
 
PROMOTIONS
 
Saturday is Senior Day and Cancer Awareness.
 
Before the first pitch, Howard will recognize Emory for her hard work and dedication on and off the field.
 
Furthermore, the Bison will acknowledge cancer survivors in attendance.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard has a pair of midweek games before finishing the regular season at Maryland Eastern Shore (April 28-29).
 
Tuesday (April 24), the Bison travels to Baltimore for its rubber match against Coppin State. First-pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
 
Two days later (April 26), HU goes to nearby Bowie, Md. where they will take on Bowie State in a nonconference matchup. Game-time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
