@HowardUniSB Resumes MEAC Play Saturday Versus Norfolk State; Goes to Bowie State Monday

Howard clashes with Spartans in vital three-game series; Bison meet Bulldogs in nonconference play

WASHINGTON (April 13, 2018) – Coach Lauren McCoy and the Howard University Softball team resume Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play Saturday when the Norfolk State (NSU) Spartans come calling. Additionally, HU travels to nearby Bowie, Md. to face Bowie State (BSU) in a nonconference matchup.
 
Saturday's (April 14) twinbill starts at 1 p.m. while Sunday's (April 15) seven-inning contest begins at noon.
 
Monday's game against the Bulldogs starts at 3 p.m. Fans can follow all the action at BSU via live stats.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEWS
 
HOWARD
 
HU (4-31, 2-6 MEAC) enters the weekend only two losses back for the fourth and final spot in the MEAC Northern Division. Freshman Trinity Gibbs and sophomore Kamryn Tillman provide the 1-2 punch at the top of the order. Gibbs, reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week, leads the club in batting average (.333) and Tillman is right behind her (.321).
 
NORFOLK STATE
 
NSU (15-23, 5-7 MEAC) comes to The District sitting in the fifth spot. Norfolk State concludes its road slate this weekend as the remaining nine contests will be played in Norfolk. Junior Kylee Lopez ranks among the league leaders in several hitting categories, including doubles (2nd), homers (2nd), RBIs (2nd), and total bases (2nd).
 
BOWIE
 
Before meeting HU, Bowie State (8-15) takes on Lincoln (Pa.) in a Saturday doubleheader. Entering the weekend, the Bulldogs have dropped three straight after wrapping up a four-game home stand. Overall, the squad is hitting .367 at the plate, led by Tiffany Bearns (.544) and Morgana Johnson (.529).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Tuesday (April 10), HU dropped two against the Drexel Dragons. HU fell in game one, 9-1, and came up short in the nightcap, 6-5. In game two, Tillman went 3-of-4 with a double and run scored.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
HU hosts Delaware State in their final home weekend of the season (April 21-22).
 
Saturday is Senior Day and Cancer Awareness. The twinbill is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Sunday's seven-inning game starts at noon.
