@HowardUniSB Opens Five-Game Home Stand Tuesday

Howard welcomes Siena to The District

WASHINGTON (March 26, 2018) – Coach Lauren McCoy and the Howard University Softball team open a five-game home stand Tuesday when the Siena Saints come to The District for a nonconference doubleheader. First-pitch is set for 11 a.m. at Nationals Youth Academy.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Howard (3-23) look to get into a rhythm before resuming league play versus Morgan State. In conference play, senior Brooklyn Emory and redshirt freshman Zaria Hall lead the club in batting average (.286). In the circle, redshirt junior Mackenzi Steele picked up second win of the year after settling down and tossing five scoreless innings at Hampton.

After seeing last week's tournament at Mount St. Mary's cancelled because of the wintery storm, the Saints (3-11) seek momentum as the prepare for conference play against Niagara (March 31). Madysen Cossack leads the squad in several batting categories, including average (.364), slugging (.682), and hits (16).

LAST TIMEOUT

On March 23-24, the Bison lost its season series at Hampton, 2-1.

HU erased a six-run deficit to knock off rival Hampton in its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener Friday (March 23). Emory and freshman Breanna Robinson led the comeback, driving in two runs apiece.

Howard dropped both games Saturday (March 24) at Hampton. HU fell in game one, 8-0, followed by a 9-1 loss in the rubber match. Freshman Alyssa Lavine drove in fellow classmate Trinity Gibbs on a RBI-sac fly in game two.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

On March 30-31, Howard hosts Morgan State in a three-game series at Nationals Youth Academy. Friday's doubleheader starts 1 p.m. and Saturday's seven-inning contest begins at noon.
