DANBURY, Conn. (March 22, 2018) – Howard University freshman guard
RJ Cole continues to receive postseason accolades as he was picked 2017-18 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Year. The announcement came Thursday morning.
Cole ended his first season winning the 2017-18 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year while setting a new conference record with 13 rookie of the week honors. Additionally, he was named to the All-MEAC First Team.
Last week, the New Jersey product earned a spot on the 2017-18 NABC Division I All-District teams alongside sophomore
Charles Williams.
Nationally, the New Jersey native ranks seventh in scoring (23.7) while finishing the regular season among the MEAC leaders in assists (6.1), steals (1.7), and minutes (38.0). Cole has scored double figures in every game this season while recording 25 20-point performances. He has also registered five 30-point games and a 40-point performance, which he is one of four freshmen in the nation to produce a 40-point game this year.
Hofstra's junior Justin Wright-Foreman won ECAC Player of the Year while Penn's Head Coach Steve Donahue claimed ECAC Coach of the Year.
