Women’s Hoops Ends Regular Season at Coppin State

Bison fighting for tournament seeding

WASHINGTON (February 28, 2018) – With only one game before the tournament play, Coach Ty Grace and the Howard University Women's Basketball team ends the regular season in Baltimore where the Coppin State (CSU) Eagles await. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

Fans can follow all the action via live video and live stats.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Howard (11-17, 7-8 MEAC) seeks momentum in their final road game of the season. As of today, HU holds the sixth spot; however, the Bison have a chance to move up to fifth with a win and Morgan State loss at Delaware State. On the flip side, a road loss could drop Coach Grace's bunch as low as eighth.

If HU clinches the fifth or sixth spot, they will play Monday (March 5). If Howard falls to seventh or eighth, the Bison will play Tuesday (March 6).

Coppin State (6-21, 5-10 MEAC) enters Thursday's showdown on a seven-game slide after falling to crosstown rival Morgan State, 73-59. Senior Genesis Lucas leads the Eagles, averaging 16.2 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.8 steals. Sophomore Chance Graham, Preseason All-MEAC selection, is a double-double machine, posting 12.9 ppg and 10.5 rpg. Currently, CSU sits in the 10th spot, but have an opportunity to jump to ninth with a victory and South Carolina State loss at Savannah State.

LAST TIMEOUT

Last Saturday (Feb. 24), HU took down the Delaware State Hornets, 78-70, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchup at Burr Gymnasium. Sophomore Jayla Myles led the Bison with a double-double, scoring a team-high 14 points while adding 11 rebounds.

Monday (Feb. 25), Howard came up short in overtime versus the Norfolk State Spartans, 59-53, in their home finale. HU was led by sophomore Imani Bryant, who finished with a double-double (15 rebounds and 11 points) while rejecting three shots. Classmate Sarah Edmond added 10 points in a losing effort.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Howard's next stop is the MEAC Basketball Tournament in Norfolk, Va. The six-day event (March 5-10) will take place inside the Norfolk Scope Arena. Date and time is to be determined.
