MEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Saturday (Feb. 24), Coach
Kevin Nickelberry and the Howard University Men's Basketball team defeated Delaware State, 93-74 inside The Burr on Senior Day. HU recognized senior
Dalique Mingo for his hard work and dedication on and off the court. The dynamic duo of freshman
RJ Cole and sophomore
Charles Williams led the way, scoring 25 points apiece.
Monday (Feb. 26), HU fell to Norfolk State, 79-74, inside Burr Gymnasium in front of a raucous crowd on nationally televised ESPNU. Williams led all scorers with a season-high 32 points, shooting 93-percent (13-of-14) on the night. Cole racked up 21 points, seven dimes, four steals, and four boards in the loss.
Yesterday (Feb. 27), the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its weekly honors where Cole clinched his 13th top rookie weekly award after his efforts against Norfolk State and Delaware State.
Thursday (March 1), Howard finishes the regular season at Coppin State. Game-time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Saturday (Feb. 24), Coach
Ty Grace and the Howard University Women's Basketball team took down the Delaware State Hornets, 78-70, in a MEAC matchup at Burr Gymnasium. HU recognized senior
Tajzhane Dopson for her hard work and dedication on and off the court. Sophomore
Jayla Myles led the Bison with a double-double, scoring a team-high 14 points while adding 11 rebounds.
Monday (Feb. 25), Howard came up short in overtime versus the Norfolk State Spartans, 59-53, in their home finale. HU was led by sophomore
Imani Bryant, who finished with a double-double (15 rebounds and 11 points) while rejecting three shots. Classmate
Sarah Edmond added 10 points in a losing effort.
Howard concludes the regular season by traveling to Baltimore to take on Coppin State Thursday (March 1). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
BOWLING
Last weekend (Feb. 24-25), Coach
Ron Davis and the Howard University Women's Bowling team placed 3rd in the MEAC Northern Division Meet No. 3 in Washington, D.C. Standout freshman
Carolyn Williams led the way, finishing second overall in traditional matches after averaging 189.75, with a high game of 204 against Delaware State. Sophomore
Tea Lewis and senior
Sydney Reece placed 10th and 11
th, respectively.
Howard recognized 11 bowlers from across the MEAC Northern Division, including HU seniors Reece and
Kristyn Mitchell.
On March 16-17, HU returns to the lanes at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt.
SOFTBALL
HU went winless in the Tar Heel trip over the weekend (0-4).
On Feb. 23, North Carolina Central won game one, 4-1, then blanked Howard in the nightcap, 8-0.
The next day (Feb. 24), the Bison fell 7-2 in game one, then Elon shutdown Howard in the nightcap, 3-0.
Today, the Bison travel to nearby American. First-pitch at noon.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
Thursday (Feb. 22), Coach
Larry Strickland and Howard University Women's Tennis team went into Richmond, Va. shorthanded as they faced Virginia Commonwealth (VCU). HU was shutout by the Rams, 7-0.
Sunday (Feb. 25), HU wrapped up its brief two-match road swing in Annapolis, Md., where Navy shutout the Bison, 7-0, at the Tose Family Center.
Saturday (March 3), the Bison return home to host George Mason. First-serve is scheduled for noon.
