Box Score Niagara Univ., NY (December 1, 2018) --- The Bison improved their record to 5-2 today with an away win over the Niagara University Purple Eagles. Led by head coach
Ty Grace, the Bison are off to their best start since the 2004-05 season. That season the Bison began with a 5-0 record under head coach Cathy Parson. Grace is in her fourth year as the current head coach.

Krislyn Marsh put the Bison on the board in the first quarter. Marsh would have the only points from either team for nearly three minutes before the Purple Eagles scored. The slow momentum allowed Niagara to end the first quarter on top, 14-12.
In the second quarter, the Purple Eagles began with a 20-14 lead that was held nearly the entire quarter. With two minutes remaining in the quarter, a three pointer by
Kelsie Jacobs tied the game 26-26. Layups by
Krislyn Marsh and
Asia McCants in the final minutes put the Bison up, 30-26, going into the half.
The Bison were able to maintain the lead for most of the third quarter. The Purple Eagles were able to tie, 35-35, midway through but the Bison never allowed themselves to fall back.
Jayla Thornton rattled off three 3-pointers, hitting the final shot in the quarter with less than 10 seconds remaining. Thornton, with 19 total points, was the top scorer for Howard.
A solid offensive effort by the Purple Eagles in the fourth quarter brought them within as little five points but the Bison stepped up when it mattered most. The team effort showed in the distribution of points.
Sarah Edmond had 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Marsh had 10 points, three rebounds, a block and an assist. Howard shot 34.8 percent from the field compared to Niagara's 38 percent. The Bison were 72 percent from the free throw line. The Purple Eagles were 50 percent.
Howard continues their next three games on the road. The Bison will face the University of Richmond Spiders on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.
