NORFOLK, Va. (November 27, 2018) – For the third consecutive week, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its men's basketball weekly awards where Howard University saw one of its own selected player of the week. Sophomore guard
RJ Cole (Union, N.J.) took home MEAC Co-Player of the Week honors for his tremendous efforts over the Thanksgiving weekend. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
Cole was named to the Las Vegas Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team after registering 28.5 points per game. After opening the tourney with a 26-point performance against Little Rock (Nov. 23), the New Jersey native poured in a season-best 31 points, six boards, five assists and guided HU to an 86-84 victory over California Baptist from the Western Athletic Conference.
Teammates
Chad Lott (Shreveport, La.) and
Charles Williams (Richmond, Va.) won MEAC Player of the Week earlier in the season. Lott garnered the award Nov. 13, followed by Williams Nov. 20.
Bethune-Cookman's (B-CU) Malik Maitland shared the other half of the player of the week honors with Cole. B-CU also saw Cletrell Pope named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week. Florida A&M's M.J. Randolph earned the league's rookie of the week accolades.
