Nicholas Askew and the Howard University Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving teams return home where they will host Chowan in their home opener. First race is set for 2 p.m. inside Burr Pool.
LAST MEET
Friday (Oct. 12), the Bison traveled back to American University where they faced the Eagles and Manhattan.
For the men, sophomore
Kegan Ford (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) led the way with a pair of first-place victories in the men's 50-yard (21.79) and 100-yard (48.29) freestyles. On the women's side, senior
KaSandra Kaplan (Detroit) won the women's 200-yard free (1:56.97) while sophomore
Christian Nickolas (Brentwood, Calif.) came in first with a 226.75 score in the 1-meter dive.
The following day (Oct. 13), HU went to the Lexington, Va. to take on Barton and Virginia Military Institute where the men placed third overall while the women were victorious.
Ford led the way again with two victories in the men's 50 free (21.96) and 100 free (48.47). Newcomer
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) was a winner in the women's 1000-yard freestyle (11:11.87) and 100-yard freestyle (55.58). The Pennsylvania native performance in the 1000 free was the third-fastest in program history.
BISON TO WATCH
Wednesday (Oct. 17), the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) uncovered its weekly honors where a trio of Bison were recognized.
Ford was among those acknowledged after facing a tough two days of competition. The Trinidad & Tobago native was perfect, winning all four individual events over the weekend.
Senior
Justice Brown-Duso (Cranston, R.I.) was selected CCSA Men's Diver of the Week while Nickolas won CCSA Women's Diver of the Week.
Kaplan enters Saturday meet looking to build on her legacy. The Detroit product received honorable mention from the CCSA after boasting three victories in the women's 200 Free, 200 Fly and 200 Free relay last weekend.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
After a week away from the pool, coach Askew and the Bison travel to Emmitsburg, Md. for a three-team meet between Howard, Monmouth and Mount St. Mary's. First race is slated for 1 p.m.
