LEXINGTON, Va. (October 13, 2018) – Howard University Women's Swimming & Diving team was victorious Saturday when they defeated Barton and Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
HU topped Barton, 136-85, and then took down the Keydets, 136-91.
Individually, senior
KaSandra Kaplan (Detroit), sophomore
Christian Nickolas (Brentwood, Calif.) and freshman
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) led the way.
Kaplan placed first in the women's 200 free (1:58.81) and 200 butterfly (2:16.89) while Nickolas won the 1-meter (240.70) and 3-meter (214.58) dives.
Freeman also came away a winner in the women's 1000-yard freestyle (11:11.87) and 100-yard freestyle (55.58). The Pennsylvania native performance in the 1000 free was the third-fastest in program history.
Other notable performance was senior and future Olympian
Latroya Pina (Seeknok, Mass.) placing second in the women's 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.93).
Howard also won a pair of relay events: 200-yard medley (1:56.31) and 200-yard freestyle (1:43.02).
