GENEVA, Ohio (February 23, 2025) – With a score of 683.5, the Howard University women's swimming and diving team held on to earn second place in the 2025 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship.
The feat marks the second year in a row the Bison have brought the runner-up trophy back to The Mecca.
Sophomore
Chanice Posada (Houston) kicked off the evening with a first-place finish in the 200-Back. Her time of 2:01.41 set a personal best (PB) and new program record. The win marked a clean sweep for the Houston native as she took home the gold in the 100 Back Friday (Feb. 22).
Freestyle standout
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) earned first place in the 100 Free with a time of 49.71, beating her program record of 50.06, which was set at last year's NEC Championship.
Senior
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) earned her final individual medal of her career with a silver finish in the 200 Breast. Her new PB of 2:17.48 shaved over two second off her former personal best while setting a program record in the process.
In one of the most exciting races of the night, Howard's A relay team consisting of Thompson, Posada, Nwaeze and sophomore
Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) closed out the championship with a first-place finish in the 400 Free Relay – doing so by 0.48 seconds.
After sweeping all three freestyle events, Nwaeze was named NEC Most Outstanding Swimmer for the second year in a row. The accomplishment marked the third consecutive major award for the Maryland native as she won Rookie of the Year her freshman season.
