WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard University softball team is set to open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action with a three-game Northern Division series against Hampton. The Bison will host a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.
Howard is looking to turn the season around after getting off to a 0-16 start. The Bison have had the last two weeks off after cancelling seven games due to inclement weather. The squad last saw action at the Puerto Rico Classico against Furman, Albany and MEAC foe Florida A&M.
Heading into conference play, Kamryn Tillman tops the team with 13 hits, 11 runs and three homers. Deja Henderson is taking a team-best eight RBI and 12 hits into the weekend, including four doubles, while Imani Ballard and Milan Poindexter have 10 hits apiece. Ballard also has the best batting average on the team (.556).
Hampton (5-13) is coming off a 4-1 loss to UNC Wilmington two weeks ago. The Lady Pirates have five players with at least 10 hits, led by Cassidy Blackwell with 15. Taylor Warrick has a team-high eight runs.
It is the second straight season that Howard has started MEAC competition against Hampton.
