ATHENS, Ga. – The Howard University men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the season at the 2017 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships.
The men's team placed seventh with 376 points and the women were ninth on 245 points. UMBC (1,522) claimed the men's title and Florida Gulf Coast (1,574.5) took home the women's crown.
Senior captain TJ Miller broke the oldest men's individual record at Howard. He swam the 100 butterfly in 49.80, which replaced the 49.85 mark formerly held by Mike Houston '89. Miller now has nine school records, which makes him the most accomplished swimmer in HU history.
Miller joined Don Brazelton, Xavier Philips and Alexander Barnes in the 400 medley relay to set a new school record by finishing the race in 3:27.84. With that, the men's team broke all four of Howard's relay records.
For the women, KaSandra Kaplan, Latroya Pina, Andreas Weech and Leanne McMaster set a new record in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:58.22. Howard snapped three of the four relay records during the championship. Pina went on to touch the wall in 1:07.07 in the 100 breaststroke, the second-fastest time in program history.
Howard also finished the 2016-17 regular season undefeated at home with a spotless 3-0 record for both squads.
