Bison End Home Stretch With Terriers

Howard seeks third straight win against St. Francis-Brooklyn

WASHINGTON (December 8, 2017) – After a week away from the hardwood, the Howard University Women's Basketball team ends its three-game home stand against St. Francis-Brooklyn (SFC). Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at The Burr.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
HU (2-5) seeks their third straight victory after dropping its first five contest of the season. In the last three games, sophomore Sarah Edmond has averaged 21.7 points per game (PPG) while shooting 84-percent (21-of-25) from the foul line. Freshman Tariah Johnson has been a major contributor in the Bison's recent success. In the two wins, Johnson has averaged 12.0 PPG on 9-of-17 shooting from the field while recording eight total steals. Defensively, the trio of Johnson, sophomore center Jayla Myles and senior Tajzhane Dopson provide the havoc to opposing teams.
 
SFC (3-5) enter Saturday's showdown with a double-digit victory over Loyola (Md.), 64-47. Coach John Thurston returns eight Terriers, led by Alex Delaney. This season, she has made 18 trey balls on 38-percent (18-of-47) from beyond the arc. St. Francis-Brooklyn was selected to finish sixth in this year's Preseason NEC Coaches Poll. Last year, the Terriers, who were also picked sixth, finished in eighth place and reached the NEC Quarterfinals.
 
LAST TIMEOUT

Last Saturday (Dec. 2), Coach Ty Grace and the Bison earned its second win in a row after knocking off Florida International, 69-62, inside Burr Gymnasium.
 
Despite only shooting 35-percent (23-of-66) from the field, HU (2-5) reached the charity stripe 23 times and shot 74-percent (17-of-23). Additionally, Howard outrebounded the Panthers, 48-38.
 
Edmond had a game-high 24 points, including 10-of-12 from the foul line. Dopson recorded her first double-double of the season, posting 11 points and 11 boards in the victory.
 
Johnson filled the stat sheet once again, finishing with 14 points, six steals, five rebounds, and an assist. Myles added eight points, seven boards, and two rejections in the win.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

HU begins a three-game road trip at Cincinnati (Dec. 14). Game-time is set for 7 p.m.
