MATCHUP PREVIEW

Thursday's matchup will be the third all-time meeting between the two teams with the series knotted 1-1.

In the first meeting (Dec. 29, 1994), HU defeated UC 72-70 on a neutral floor at the Brigham Young Holiday Classic. Last season, the Bearcats edged out Howard, 66-56, inside Fifth Third Arena. In that contest, Sydni Johnson and Te'Shya Heslip combined for 33 points in the loss.

Howard (3-5) comes in riding a three-game winning streak after starting the season 0-5. For the season, sophomore guard Sarah Edmond is pacing the team with 12.5 points per contest. Freshman guard Tariah Johnson, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, chips in 8.5 points and a Bison-best 5.1 rebounds a game. Defensively, the trio of Johnson, sophomore center Jayla Myles and senior guard Tajzhane Dopson provide the havoc to opposing teams.

UC (6-4) staged a fourth-quarter comeback that came up just short in a 53-50 loss to Xavier. Nikira Goings leads UC in scoring (11.2 PPG), followed by Iimar'I Thomas and Ana Owens each with 11 points per game. As a team, Cincinnati is second in the American Atlantic Conference (AAC) in scoring defense (57.8 PPG) and third in the league field goal percentage (44-percent).

LAST TIMEOUT

On Dec. 9, the Bison earned its third straight win with a 72-69 overtime victory over St. Francis-Brooklyn inside Burr Gymnasium.

Four Bison reached double-figures, led by sophomore Ayonna Williams. The D.C. native had a game-high 19 points, five boards, and two dimes in the win.

Myles, Dopson, and Johnson each had 10 points. Sophomore Imani Bryant racked up 10 rebounds, five points, and three rejections in the victory.
