MATCHUP PREVIEW
This is the second consecutive season Howard and Vermont have met. Last year, HU defeated the Catamounts, 64-57, at Burr Gymnasium. Erin Blaine led the team, scoring with 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Jasmine Hill chipped in 13 points, five assists and four boards.
Howard (0-2) seeks their first win of the season despite their recent struggles on the offensive end. Freshman
Curstyn Moore leads the squad in scoring, netting 15 points per game (PPG). Additionally, she was selected Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week after her 20-point performance versus William & Mary last Saturday. Sophomore
Sarah Edmond ranks second on the team in scoring with 9 PPG.
Vermont's Head Coach Chris Day enters his second season after finishing 9-20 overall a year ago despite a plethora of injuries. Vermont (1-2) returns 10 letterwinners, including the five players who logged the most games in the starting lineup. Sydney Smith (12.1 ppg) led all returnees in scoring last season.
LAST TIMEOUT
Tuesday, the Bison suffered a 93-41 loss at crosstown foe Georgetown.
HU was unable to find their rhythm, shooting only 21-percent (13-of-61) from the floor, including 13-percent (2-of-16) from beyond the arc.
Despite the team's tough shooting night, Moore led the way with 10 points and six boards. The New York native went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 4-of-4 at the charity stripe.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
HU's road trip continues at No. 15 Maryland. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the XFINITY Center.
