ASHLAND, Va. (November 10, 2017) – Howard University Men's Swimming & Diving team began the weekend with a pair of victories against Randolph-Macon, 122-82, and Hampden-Sydney, 149-55. With both victories, the Bison are riding a four-meet winning streak.
Freshmen
Jon Bendana and
Tyrese Watkins earned the team's Golden Goggles, HU's most outstanding male performer of the meet.
HU opened the night with a win in the men's 200-yard medley relay, led by sophomores
Don Brazelton,
Sidrell Williams, and
Maalik Nixon and freshman
William Smith.
Williams also finished first in the men's 100-yard freestyle (46.43) while Brazelton earned the top spot in the men's 100-yard backstroke (54.46).
Smith won the men's 100-yard breaststroke, thanks to a 59.97 time.
Sophomore
Noah Nicholas won the first individual event of the night, the men's 1000-yard freestyle with a 10:37 time.
Newcomer
Darrin Asphall placed first in the men's 200-yard freestyle with a 1:47.20 mark.
Junior
Alexander Barnes claimed the top spot in the men's 100-yard butterfly (53.11).
In Friday's final event, Nixon, Barnes, Williams joined junior
Mark McCluskey to win the men's 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:28.24 mark.
Saturday (Nov. 11), the Bison travel to Wilson, N.C. for a dual meet against Barton College. First race at 1 p.m.
