Four Bison Get Jerseys Retired At The Burr

Volleyball acknowledged four outstanding Bison Friday

WASHINGTON (October 23, 2017) – Before Friday's match versus Bethune-Cookman, Coach Shaun Kupferberg and the Howard University Women's Volleyball team retired four jerseys into the Burr rafters. The four Bison acknowledged inked themselves into the program's history, winning several team and individual awards.

No. 2 Breshawn Harris, No. 6 Ericka Rockwood, No. 13 Carla Ellis and No. 15 Kialyn Walker saw their jerseys unveiled during HU Homecoming weekend.

Breshawn won three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships while winning the tournament's most outstanding performer twice. Primarily a setter, she entered HU's record books as a prolific server, finishing with the most career aces in the program's history. Dr. Harris graduated with a degree in Broadcast Production before getting her Ph.D. She also found the Legacy Educational Services, which consults students and parents regarding college planning.

Rockwood is one of only two Bison in Howard history to produce 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. She was a consistent force who never left the court and was a critical part of two MEAC Championship teams. Ericka graduated with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation and has been teaching future generations of Bison in Prince George County for the past 17 years.

Carla leads the Howard program in two categories: most career games and career blocks. She ranks among the most efficient hitters in history while guiding the Bison to a pair of MEAC Championships. While attending Howard, she majored in pre-med/psychology. Currently, Dr. Ellis is a professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta where she specializes in the pathology of the kidney and male genital tract.

Walker was a dynamic and efficient hitter, finishing with 1,133 kills, which is second all-time in program history. During her tenure, she led the Bison to a couple of MEAC Titles. Kia graduated with a Psychology degree and went on to earn multiple post-grad degrees. Today, she owns a Behavior Health Clinic, Life Changing Solutions, with multiple locations throughout Louisiana and Georgia.

Friday, the Bison conclude its five-match home stretch with Maryland Eastern Shore, followed by a road contest at Delaware State Sunday.

Friday night's showdown for first-place starts 7 p.m. while Sunday afternoon's conference match begins 3 p.m.
