PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Howard University softball team will conclude the 2016 regular season with a three-game series against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Maryland Eastern Shore on April 30-May 1. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. before closing out the series at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lady Bison (7-32, 3-12 MEAC) dropped a trio of games to conference-rival Delaware State last weekend. Al'Asia Davis led the team with a .625 batting average to go along with five hits, two doubles and a run. As a team, Howard tallied 16 hits, three extra-base hits, three runs and an RBI.
Through 39 games, Davis is hitting a team-best .432 and has 12 doubles. Jasmine Gammons tops the squad with 45 hits, 18 runs, 30 RBI and eight home runs. In the circle, RHP Janessa Flynn has a 4.86 ERA in 29 appearances and 57 strikeouts.
UMES is getting back into MEAC action after being blanked twice in a doubleheader with Drexel on Wednesday. The Hawks are 11-28 on the season and hold a 4-11 record in conference play. Vanessa Gomez leads the team with a .341 batting average, 44 hits, 11 doubles, eight triples and 21 RBI.
