Norfolk, VA—James "J-Byrd" Daniel, III has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week and Marcel Boyd has been named the Defensive Player as announced by the MEAC today.
A 5-10 junior guard from Hampton, VA, Daniel had a spectacular week, averaging 29.5 points in a win over Florida A&M and a loss to Hampton.
Daniel, who leads the country in scoring at 27.7 points per game, connected a little less than 50 percent on his shots, including 8 of 16 from beyond the arc.
He was especially outstanding in the loss at Hampton, pouring in 35 points that included 6 three pointers. The talented guard from Phoebus High School, scored his team's last 11 points. He has been named player of the week 7 times this season.
Boyd, a 6-11 junior center from Accokeek, MD, averaged 14.0 rebounds, 7.0 points, 5.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in the two games. Boyd blocked a career-high 8 shots in the FAMU game. He has recorded 9 double doubles to lead the MEAC. It was the 3rd time that Boyd has been so honored.
